“I was at a low point in my personal life,” Packer told The Australian (via The Daily Mail) about meeting Carey. “Documenting the negotiations with my sister was taking longer than expected.”
The pair met through mutual friend Brett Ratner, with whom Packer was in business.
“She was kind, exciting and fun,” Packer, 50, said of Carey, 47. “Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me.”
Their whirlwind romance drew much media attention. In January 2016, Packer proposed to Carey with a $10 million engagement ring. After the breakup in October 2016, Carey demanded $50 million claiming he caused her distress.
Since parting ways, Packer has kept a quiet life out of the spotlight at his Buenos Aires ranch.
He also told the magazine he’s got one big “regret.” It has nothing to do with the pop star, but everything to do with his ex-wife Erica Packer.
“It is my biggest regret that I let my marriage to Erica fail,” Packer confessed. “It is what it is and she is doing an incredible job with the kids and we are in a great place.”
