When you make your living off of the outlandish and incredibly brash things you say, it’s only a matter of time before you take things too far.

Simon Cowell found himself in this position when he made a joke about Mel B. and her marriage. When a magician suffered a technical malfunction during his performance, Cowell said, “I kind of image this would be like Mel B.’s wedding night. A lot of anticipation, not much promise or delivery.”

Technically, it’s a sex joke. Still, with the timing, you could easily see how it could be interpreted to mean more than just under-performance.

Given what we’ve read in the headlines about these two, allegations of domestic violence, blackmail, cheating with the nanny, I can’t understand why Cowell would say such a thing. Not only is it a touchy subject, it’s still fresh and yet to be resolved. Not to mention a bit of an unnecessary reach in the context of a talent show.

Either way, Mel B. didn’t sit silently by. After Cowell made his comment, she let him know how she felt about it, by throwing water on him before leaving the stage.

On any other night, this would be the craziest thing to happen on .

Judging from this gif, it doesn’t look like she’s all that upset, just trying to one up him. And also issue a warning to tread lightly when it comes to Mr. Stephen Belafonte.

After the incident, Mel B. walked off stage.

Afterward, during her interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mel said, “He should know, if you say something inappropriate he’s gonna get like, stuff thrown at him…in a friendly way. I made sure there was no ice in it this time…just fizzy water.”

In between takes, Mel B. said she told Cowell that he was an a–hole. He responded, “Oh whatever.”

This we knew.

Simon’s not the only one though. Her estranged husband was a piece of work himself. And an expensive one at that. In July Brown was ordered to pay Belafonte $40,000 a month in temporary spousal support.

When Mel B. filed for divorce, back in March after nearly ten years of marriage, she asked for joint legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old daughter and requested that the court terminate their ability to award child support.
