The winners of T&T’s Carnival Road March have been selected to showcase at popular U.S. music festival SXSW (South By Southwest).
The Ultimate Rejects, led by MX Prime – formerly Maximus Dan, are responsible for the #1 song of the carnival season, “Full Extreme”.
MX Prime wrote “Full Extreme” – which was voted Road March after setting a new record of 556 plays for bands crossing the stage on carnival Monday and Tuesday (Feb 27 & 28).
Now following a hectic season that saw the Rejects performing in up to 18 different fetes every weekend, the group is now headed to Austin, TX, to participate in one of the world’s largest showcases for indie artists and alternative music.
Announced via their social media accounts, the Ultimate Rejects are slated to perform a 40 minute Caribbean Dance Music at the SXSW to be held Sunday March 19 at the Russian House of Austin.
Other performances during the festival have yet to be announced but as the group is scheduled to be in Austin from March 10th, more are expected.
Over the past few years, SXSW has increasingly added stages, showcases, and parties featuring Caribbean music such as Reggae, Dancehall, Calypso, and Soca. The Ultimate Rejects will join Machel Montano, Destra Garcia, Shurwayne Winchester and The Mighty Sparrow, as artists representing T&T to be included in SXSW.
Following the end of Carnival, the Ultimate Rejects released a follow up to “Full Extreme”, the tune “Excess”, a collaboration with Los Angeles based DJ/Producer X-Change, that is described as “a pop-infused dance song that blends Caribbean Dance Music (CDM), Electronic Dance Music (EDM), and Caribbean sounds including Soca elements.” Both songs are among other they will perform at SXSW.
